A Delicious Stop at Cashiers Farmers Market and “On The Side” BBQ
After witnessing the thrilling first 2025 High Falls Dam Release from Lake Glenville, I found myself with an empty stomach and a serious craving for something good. My son, knowing the area well, pointed me toward Cashiers Farmers Market — and it turned out to be the perfect recommendation.
Cashiers Farmers Market isn’t just a market — it’s a family-owned and operated unique local produce stand that seems more like a trading post, where you sit on a rocking chair on the porch and tell big tales, The market has been part of the Cashiers community since 1995. Tom and Robin Crawford started with a simple produce stand behind a gas station, and today, along with their children Josh and Miranda (and a few family friends), they run a beautiful specialty grocery and produce market that’s a must-visit whether you’re a tourist or a local. The market is packed with fresh, vibrant produce, handmade pies, jams, jellies, cheeses, sauces, and all kinds of specialty foods and hostess gifts. They even have a charming little coffee shop tucked inside.
And then there’s “On The Side”, their BBQ takeout restaurant that more than deserves its own spotlight.
I stopped in and ordered the Smoked Beef Brisket, a side of creamy potato salad, and a refreshing lemonade. Every bite was better than the last. The brisket was smoked to tender perfection — full of rich flavor without being overly heavy — and the potato salad was the perfect cool, savory complement. The lemonade was crisp, cold, and just tart enough to cut through the richness of the BBQ. Check out the On The Side menu here
Adding to the charm of the experience were the big ol’ loafing golden retrievers lounging around the market grounds. It was pure joy seeing adults and kids alike stop to give the happy dogs a few loving pats. Honestly, it felt like stepping into a scene from a storybook — good food, fresh mountain air, and wagging tails everywhere.
If you’re heading through Cashiers or planning a day trip, make it a point to stop by Cashiers Farmers Market. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh produce, unique local goods, a good coffee, or some seriously satisfying BBQ, it’s a stop that’s absolutely worth it.
