(1/2/2024) The Franklin, NC Town Council has unanimously approved the establishment of a Social District in the downtown area nearly a year after initiating discussions and conducting extensive research and public input sessions. This move follows the lead of North Carolina’s legislation, allowing people to move around with alcoholic beverages in designated areas freely. The Social District aims to boost downtown foot traffic and revenue for local businesses and foster social events like festivals and food trucks. Operating from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, the district includes specific downtown sidewalks and consenting businesses, excluding Main Street itself. Franklin’s initiative mirrors the successful implementation of a similar district in nearby Sylva, NC. Read more about this story and what a Social District is:
