Four years ago, someone suggested that Lee try the Sunrise Grill in Boone, NC. However, due to its popularity and an over-an-hour wait, he had to eat elsewhere and didn’t get the chance to visit until our most recent trip to Grandfather Mountain. We were hit by a storm around 5 am and, with a brief lull in the rain around 9 am, decided to pack up our campsite and head home. Instead of cooking breakfast in the rain, we finally opted to try the Sunrise Grill. We spent about 45 minutes preparing for a wait on the front porch, chatting with other patrons, and showing off our Jeep and Overlander trailer.

McBoone Sandwich – Two fried eggs, American cheese, choice of sausage patties, links or two bacon strips with hash browns home fries or grits. FULL MENU

Let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait. We wanted to experience something with a local vibe. I love eggs Benedict, and they had a version called Benedict Formaggio. This dish featured their own garlic mayo, pesto, a grilled tomato, shredded spinach, and a balsamic vinegar sauce along with the usual poached egg and hollandaise, served on ciabatta. It was bursting with amazing flavor and did not disappoint. Lee chose the McBoone sandwich, their delicious, upgraded take on a McGriddle—definitely a thousand times better than Mickey D’s.

Benedict Formaggio – Ciabatta split and grilled with house-made garlic mayo topped with shaved Parmesan or grated Asiago, Pesto, lightly grilled tomato, spinach, two poached eggs and Hollandaise FULL MENU

They offer a variety of Eggs Benedict, brisket hashbrowns, corned beef, omelets, different types of beef and ham, French toast varieties, and plenty of coffee drinks from plain black to lavender. However, they are only open for breakfast and lunch, and you should be prepared for a bit of a wait. VISIT THE SUNRISE GRILL
